Kim Caskey will provide us with a “Virtual Tour of Japan and the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival”. The Festival had over 1800 quilts on display and 200 vendors offering a wide variety of goods that every quilter and stitcher could want in this. The hanging quilt displays offered magnificent and masterful quilts in numerous themes and categories.
Our guest speaker is a very talented long arm quilter from Edmonton, Alberta. She is very involved and is on the executive of the Edmonton Quilt Guild.
Kim learned the art of sewing and quilting at an early age, first being taught by her mother and grandmother. In addition to quilting, she has become proficient at pattern making, knitting, crochet, cross stitch, tatting and rug hooking. Her mother taught her patience too, which has proved invaluable in her pursuit of the arts. After high school, she got her NAIT diploma for tailoring and dressmaking.
She began her quilting study with Earthly Goods Quilting in 1992 – quite by accident. Her mother had signed up for a class but was unable to attend so Kim took her place and was hooked.
She has become a long arm quilter who shares her art with students around the world. She has done many shows and tours and is the recipient of many awards, worldwide.
Her students share that her classes are highly sought after and everyone has come away, learning something new. I am sure we will all have something new to take away from her chat with us.
