June 2026 Workshop

June 3, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Julie Sinden will lead us in the Indigo Dyeing Using Clay Resist Workshop.

Indigo dyeing is the only natural source of colourfast true blue. All materials will be supplied.  We will begin by learning the history and “how to” of this magical dye plant and discuss the different types of indigo vats and how to choose which one is best for a project. The clay paste will be mixed in advance, and you will apply it to your cloth using brushes, stencils and stamps.  All items will be dyed in organic fructose vats which will be created in advance for us. The clay paste will act as a resist, resulting in gorgeous patterns of white and blue.

The instructor will provide each participant with four fat quarters of Kona Cotton for dyeing.

Julie Sinden is a textile artist and small business owner based in Toronto (but originally from Port Ryerse!). Julie’s passion for indigo dyeing will become obvious in this workshop.
