Rosey Bourne Presentation at November 2025 Meeting

Please join us on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vittoria Community Centre.

Rosey Bourne will present her trunk show featuring Sashiko stitching.

Rosey is a textile artist and is an experienced sashiko stitcher who leads a sit and stitch club in Tillsonburg and belongs to the Stationhouse Quilters and Fibre Artists.

She will take us on a journey from sewing with her mother as a child, through high school sewing and tailoring. When she retired, she launched into the quilting world. Sashiko stitching has become a favourite of hers. You can see by her pieces… everything is utilized.

Rosey also creates functional, one-of-a-kind artistic accessories. She has always enjoyed hand stitching and is quite avid on reducing the impact on landfills by recycling. She includes salvaged and upcycled materials in her work to minimize the impact fabric production can have on the environment. Each piece is completely unique and offers a bold statement to accent your look.

President’s Teachable Moment – 2025-26

October 2025

Feedback from the Spring 2025 Members’ survey had multiple requests to learn or make Log Cabin Blocks

As with many quilt blocks there are many layout possibilities from traditional to modern.

Over the next months, we plan to present the log cabin block and variations of it to make each month.

You can make one block or a group of blocks for placemats, table runners, pillows, insert into a garment, or a bag, or any size quilt

This is a great way to use scraps!

Dresden Plate Block Workshop in October 2025

Dresden Plate Block Made with a Wedge Ruler Workshop

Mary McKenzie, a member of NCQG, will lead us in making a Dresden Plate block with a modern twist.

Mary will be teaching “Vintage Spin” from Kathy Doughty’s book, “Adding Layers”. The block is a Dresden Plate pattern made with a 18-degree wedge ruler.

It has 20 segments, (10 light and 10 contrasting and a circle for the centre). Easy peasy! The block is sewn as a circle. You can leave the circle whole and applique it onto a background or cut into a 13 1/2” square. Two very different looks. It’s all about your fabric choices.

If you want an even more dynamic look, you can sew strips of contrasting and variable widths of fabric together and then cut out your wedges. There are “sew” many options!

Check out the pictures of some of the quilts Mary has made using the wedge ruler.

If you like these quilts, sign up for the class. Mary promises it won’t hurt!

Date: Tuesday, October 21, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Vittoria District Community Centre. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Maximum number of participants: 21

Registration Fee: members $20.00
