12:00 noon – Potluck lunch; 1:00 p.m. – Meeting
Julie Sinden will present “Using Natural Dyes for Quilting and More”.
Julie Sinden is a textile artist and small business owner based in Toronto (but originally from Port Ryerse!). A lover of the fibre arts since she was a child, she studied textiles at the Kootenay School of the Arts.
In this talk, Julie will share her love for the wide and varied world of using natural dyes on textiles. She will share some history of plant dyeing, then look at how they work and what things you can use as dyes, whether they are purchased dyestuffs, kitchen waste, or grown in the garden. Julie will talk about her particular passion for indigo dyeing, including using her own home-grown Japanese Indigo. Throughout, she will bring up considerations on using plant dyes for quilting projects.
