One Block Wonder Panel Quilt with Louise Hamilton Workshop

Join Us to Learn How to Make a One Block Wonder Panel Quilt

Louise Hamilton has been quilting for over 25 years and still gets excited about it every day. Louise loves lots of colour and fun designs for her quilts. Sometimes she uses patterns and sometimes she draws her own pattern, or just creates a quilt without one. She likes an element of surprise and some fun twist to her quilts. Louise bought a long arm quilting machine nine years ago and started Purple Rooster Quilting. She has been able to pursue long arming full time. She enjoys the challenge of getting just the right pantograph to make a quilt sing. Louise has presented her quilting journey and trunk show to many guilds and finds it to be a fun experience.

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

Option 1 – 7 Panels

One block wonder requires 6 repeats of the fabric to make the blocks. If you are using a panel, you will need one uncut panel which makes 7.

** If your panel is 24″ x the width of fabric, you should end up with a lap or twin-size quilt depending on borders, etc.

**If you want it bigger, you could purchase another set of 6 panels to make it bigger. Do not wash them and make sure they come off the same bolt.

Option 2 – 1 Panel and 6 repeats of a coordinating fabric.

** This is the option that worked for me as my centre panel was fairly small and the coordinating fabric was better suited to the blocks

Option 3 – 6 repeats of a fabric with a bold print

** This is how the original books on One Block Wonder were and they are great too.

Large busy, bold prints are good (in Louise’s opinion). You want a fabric that has a few main colours in it and not too much open background fabric. Look online or Pinterest for ideas and use you own good judgement.

Notes

**Make sure that you check yourself that you are getting a full six repeats of your block fabric.

Example – If there is a specific bird or leaf or flower, make sure that you are getting 6 repeats of it. If you have a bit of extra fabric, it is good to use it as a border or hanging sleeve or even as part of the backing to show what the original fabric was.

DO NOT WASH YOUR FABRIC and make sure it all comes from the same bolt.
