Please join us on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. when we kick off our year with a hybrid meeting both in-person at the Vittoria Community Centre and using the Zoom app.
Brenda Reid will be presenting “Quilting Political Space”. Brenda was the artist and coordinator of the From Behind the Mask Quilt and will speak about the project and where political and space-making quilting has taken them. After launching the From Behind the Mask community quilt project in October 2020, this pandemic-themed quilt gathered nearly 600 individual stories from the community. The quilt has travelled around the region, creating a space for the many emotions and stories of COVID-19. Following the theme of creating space through quilts, Brenda is finishing a series of quilts using the courthouse step pattern to talk about injustice within the ‘justice’ system. These quilts will be on display in early September.
Brenda (they/she) is an emerging multidisciplinary artist and designer who works and lives in Kitchener, ON. They hold a master’s degrees in architecture and work out of their shared studio space at the KW Artist’s Co-op. Their work is interested in care politics, architecture, community and the peculiarity of urban space.
In the last few years, they/she has participated in several group and solo exhibitions in Ontario.
